Common causes of semitruck accidents

New Jersey residents know that driving in The Garden State can be nerve-wracking. Some would say that the roadways in New Jersey are accidents waiting to happen with all of their twists and turns, narrow lanes and extremely steep hills.

Unfortunately, sharing these roads with all the semitrucks out there can make every trip dangerous.

There are many factors that lead to truck accidents

Truckers often find themselves trying to negotiate these dangerous roads while sharing them with drivers who are either distracted, in a hurry or aggressive. When the road is so narrow that a semitruck’s wheels ride the white lines on both sides of the lane, and the exits are on both sides of the road, one wrong move could lead to a serious accident.

Long hours, long hauls, speeding and distracted driving by truckers can be very problematic, especially if they don’t know the New Jersey roads very well.  The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) has mandates in place regarding all of those things, yet, sometimes truckers ignore them in order to reach their destination more quickly.

Drivers in other vehicles can also cause accidents with trucks by being distracted, speeding, and driving aggressively. For example, attempting to pass a semi on a narrow road that has exits on both sides is not a great idea. Still, some people will try it and undoubtedly end up suffering the consequences.

If you are in an accident with a semi, your injuries may be severe – and you can expect the case to get complicated. Experienced legal guidance can help you get the compensation you need to recover.
