If you get involved in a car accident, outside of seeking medical attention, taking photos should be one of your first priorities. You do need to contact the authorities, and if anyone has been injured, that always takes precedence. But if possible, taking pictures can certainly help to strengthen your case.
But exactly how should you take those pictures? Here are three areas to consider.
Pictures and videos that capture the scene
To begin with, try to capture the full crash scene. Take pictures or even videos on your phone, demonstrating the road design, where the cars are located, and any other relevant information. If there are stop signs or traffic lights, for instance, try to get them in some of the shots. The big picture helps to show who caused the crash.
Pictures of injuries or damages
Once you have established the cause of the accident, you need to show what specific damages were caused in that crash. This could include physical damage to your vehicle, injuries suffered by you or your passengers and things of this nature. At this point, the pictures can be a bit closer and focused more on the details than the overall scene.
Identifying information
Finally, when you start your case, you will either be filing an insurance claim against the other driver or suing them directly, so you need identifying information. Take a picture of their driver’s license, their license plate and their insurance information. This way, you always have the contact info you need.
These pictures can certainly help you make your case, so the next step is to begin looking into all of your legal options to seek appropriate compensation.
