Defendants charged with shoplifting merchandise worth more than $200.00 face up to 18 months in jail. Call my office immediately if you have been charged with shoplifting and need representation. A defendant can be charged for shoplifting for removing merchandise without paying for it, attempting to shoplift by concealing merchandise, or attempting to pay less for the merchandise by changing the price.

If the merchandise stolen was valued at less than $200.00, the penalties includes up to six months in jail and a $1,000.00 fine.

If the merchandise stolen was valued at than $200.00 but less than $500.00, a fourth degree crime, includes up to 18 months in jail and $10,000.00 in fines.

If the merchandise stolen was valued at more than $500.00 but less than $75,000.00, penalties include up to 5 years in jail and $15,000.00 in fines.

If the merchandise stolen was valued at more than $75,000.00, penalties includes up to 10 years in jail and $150,000.00 in fines.
